Tiling Adhesive, Grout and Tile, the Quality Starts with Materials

We will bring the right materials to your project.

With our years of experience, in the tiling industry, we know that it is more than just being decorative. You need to consider the materials you use and ensure they are fit for purpose all within the budget allocated. We also consider these points below.

Sizes of the tiles will influence the room "feel", such as:

  • tiles that are smaller are excellent to use in areas with smaller dimensions such as kitchen backsplashes and ensuite bathrooms,
  • tiles that are bigger make the area seem to be more spacious.

What is the atmosphere of the room you are looking to create, tranquil? or a more vibrant area?

  • Choosing a vibrant scheme is fantastic for kitchens, as well as you can select contrasting colours to make the room stand out even more.
  • Colours that blend well are a good fit for bathrooms
  • Grout colour can have an effect on the room as well, contrasting grout colour, with the tile, will feature the lines and the design, while a grout in a complementary colour as the tile will give a subtle effect.

The size of the room is important to the tile colour.

    • If you have a small room and you are looking to have a "bigger feel", tiles that are light-coloured will help achieve this effect.
    • If you have a large room, you have more options; such as you can choose from light to dark tiles.

    Texture and finishing

    • Whether you choose matt or a polished finished is a personal choice. A glazed tile is easy to clean, whereas a natural terracotta tile has no glaze and would need a seal to stop staining occurring.
    • gloss tile will suit a dark space as it reflects more light, as does a lighter colour.
    • Ensure your grouted areas are sealed to prevent staining.

Lastly, we know that the material of the tile makes a difference ... ceramic tiles are fantastic for interior use and have many choices for designs, but are not the best for external use as they are more absorbent. We also know that working with porcelain is more breakable and harder to work with but is more durableless porous so suitable for those high traffic areas and exterior.

Why is Tile Adhesive and Tile Grout so Important?

There are all different types of Tiling Adhesive and Grouts. Some are ready-mixed, others in powder form. While easier to start using, the ready-mixed types are not as strong generally as the powder form.

You don't want to create the perfect job and find that your adhesive while being nice and easy to apply, is not up to the job of holding the weight or dealing with traffic.

In general, ready mixed tiling adhesive is suitable for smaller areas using ceramic tiles. However, larger tiles and porcelain tiles should always be fixed to the wall by a powdered solution. All floors should use a powdered mix.

There are many different categories of tiling adhesives too. Some are quick-drying, some are more flexible, some reduced slip.

Anything Else I need to Know About?

It's critical that before you start tiling, you know that your base is suitable for tiling in both strength and the makeup of the wall or floor. Some need to be primed with Epoxy, for example. Some floors may need a self leveller.

To avoid making common mistakes, we recommend that you contact an expert before buying any tiling adhesive. Even better, why not call us so we can visit, make some recommendations and if required give you a quotation which removes all the responsibility from yourself. Put the kettle on, put your feet up and leave it to us. Simples.
